  • Prayer Room @ Takashimaya Department Store in Shinjuku

Here’s a report from my muslim friend Amy about the new prayer room in Takashimaya in Shinjuku! Takashimaya in Shinjuku is starting new services for foreign tourists and setting up a prayer room was one of them. While going out near Shinjuku area, Muslims now can take their time shopping and no longer worry about prayer times. Because a prayer room has been set up at 11th floor of Takashimaya department store, which is situated near the JR New South exit. Tokyu Hands and Uniqlo are in the same building, while Kinokuniya Book store is very near. You will be able to get on the 11th floor by elevator. On… Read more »

  • Muslim Friendly Restaurant : Malaychan @ Ikebukuro

I had heard of Malaychan as the only restaurant in Japan that has been certified by JAKIM (Malaysia Halal) and as one of the oldest restaurants serving halal food. When I went to Ikebukuro the other day I remembered it and decided to try their lunch. It’s only about 5 min walk from JR Ikebukuro st. West Exit. The restaurant is small and has a kampong feel, which was nice. I ordered the chicken soup with rice vermicelli and my friend the nasi goring set that came with pickles and 2 sticks of satay with peanut sauce. Satay is one of my favorite dishes from Malaysia/Indonesia and I was excited… Read more »

  • Hello Kitty Run 2014

Mochi Mochi Japan is proud to announce that we have completed the Hello Kitty Run yesterday! We ran 42.195km relay in 3 hours 57 minutes and 3 seconds!! We were the 60th but it’s really not bad because we were a group of only 3 runners, 2 females and 1 male, whereas other groups had more than 5 runners. Our goal was to run the whole distance within 4 hours and 30 minutes, which was the time limit, and we reached the goal within less than 4 hours! DJ Kitty was so entertaining and the whole event was a bit more special than other running events. The air in the suburb of… Read more »

  • “Muslim Friendly” and “Local Halal Certificate”

As you can imagine, it’s not easy to manage a halal restaurant or make halal products in a non-muslim country, Japan. Since operating a completely halal restaurant like in a muslim country is difficult in Japan, there are local standard for halal restaurants. Here, I will introduce “muslim friendly standard” by NPO Nippon Asia Halal Association and “local halal certification” by Malaysia Halal Corporation.  Muslim Friendly Standard – Ingredients: All must be halal. – Plates and utensils: There must be plates and utensils only for halal food. – Workers: 1, There must be workers who handle only halal items but others can handle non-halal items. 2, It’s not necessary to… Read more »
