I had heard of Malaychan as the only restaurant in Japan that has been certified by JAKIM (Malaysia Halal) and as one of the oldest restaurants serving halal food. When I went to Ikebukuro the other day I remembered it and decided to try their lunch. It’s only about 5 min walk from JR Ikebukuro st. West Exit.
The restaurant is small and has a kampong feel, which was nice. I ordered the chicken soup with rice vermicelli and my friend the nasi goring set that came with pickles and 2 sticks of satay with peanut sauce. Satay is one of my favorite dishes from Malaysia/Indonesia and I was excited to taste it/grab it from his plate.
Overall, I wasn’t so excited about the taste. However, you will see that the restaurant has been receiving really good reviews by Japanese on a review site like tabelog. So, this is just my opinion and perhaps I went on a wrong day, I don’t know. If you miss Malaysia or want to try Malaysian food, why not try this place? By the way, their food is halal but they serve alcohol.
