I would definitely buy this as a gift to my Muslim friends next time!
Castella is a sponge cake made with sugar, flour, eggs and starch syrup. It is originally from Portugal and was introduced to Japan in the 16th century by Portuguese. Its soft texture and the simple taste is loved by all ages from children to elderly in Japan.
I had heard about this halal castella and knew that I can get it at the airport so I looked for it at Narita Airport T2 the other day. I found them at ANA Festa and bought the honey one. In Haneda International Airport, it’s available at Edo Shokuhinkan on the 4F, halal section.
The price is a bit expensive. It is 1000 yen for 5 or 6 pieces but it is understandable after knowing that they are additive-free, made only with locally produced ingredients. The taste was simple and nice. Highly recommended as a gift to muslims!
